Kirsty heads to The Monastery, Manchester
Globe’s Kirsty Tod recently attended a dinner at The Monastery, Manchester, hosted by the C&IT Agency Forum. Here’s what she had to say about this unique venue:
A former 19th century Franciscan Priory, in 1997 the Monastery was placed on the World Monuments Fund Watch List of 100 Most Endangered Sites in the World alongside Pompeii, the Taj Mahal and the Valley of the Kings.
After falling into disrepair in the early noughties, the building secured funding from various Heritage Funds, and was restored to its former glory, opening it’s doors to the hospitality industry in 2007.
There’s a wide variety of hosting options available; from weddings to corporate dinners and even concerts. The Monastery represents an amazingly flexible space, steeped in tradition and history that will be sure to remain in the memory of any visitor for a long time to come. It is a beautiful, classical building that exudes class and a sense of real history.
