The Brief

Globe was recently tasked with organising an international incentive trip that would WOW its attendees.

What we did

Working closely with the client, Globe identified a number of potential locations before narrowing these down to a select few and delivering a comprehensive proposal of suggested itineraries.

Ultimately, the Globe Team organised an incentive trip to remember to the awe-inspiring destination of Iceland.

Iceland is notorious for its offerings of action filled adventure and this trip did not disappoint. With a suitcase packed with thermal layers, 28 delegates set off for a four day, three night experience of a lifetime.

From air to lagoon, the group were transported from the airport to one of Iceland’s most visited attractions, The Blue Lagoon. The geothermal water of the lagoon originates 2,000 metres below the surface, where freshwater and seawater combines at extreme temperatures.

On its way to the surface the water picks up silica and minerals before emerging at a soothing 38°c – the perfect accompaniment to a chilled glass of prosecco. With a swim up bar, sauna, massaging waterfall and stunning surrounds, what better way to start an Icelandic adventure.

The group enjoyed a restful night at the Hilton Nordica in Iceland’s capital of Reykjavik. The 4 star hotel is situated in the city centre making it an ideal base for exploring the area whilst offering 11 meeting rooms; allowing you to mix business with pleasure.

Alarm clocks were set for “early” on the second day, where “super jeeps” waited, eager to transport everyone through The Golden Circle highlights; including the spouting Geysir – a hot spring shooting an impressive 15m to 30m plume before vanishing down its enormous hole – and the thundering Gullfoss waterfall – a spectacular double cascade dropping a dramatic 32m. As it descends, it kicks up magnificent walls of spray before thundering down a rocky ravine.

After a quick stop to release air from the tyres, to allow the trucks to travel across the snow, the delegates arrived at their basecamp. On arrival it was time to meet the team at HL Adventure and get measured up for snow suits before the action really began!

A fleet of snowmobiles awaited the group, ready to take off for an exhilarating one hour ride to a location where snow is all the eye can see. Led in convoy by professional guides the group stopped for pictures of their unique surroundings and of course, the all-important snow angel!

Heading back to basecamp for tent assignment and head lamps, the group feasted in the lodge for dinner with oil drum fires burning brightly in the cool conditions outside. Tents were kitted out with everything needed for a comfortable night’s sleep on the snow – adding to the excitement of this adventure.

The Super Jeep Adventure continued, taking the modified trucks and testing their limits whilst seeing what Iceland has to offer.

The group left base camp and headed back to Reykjavik, stopping off along the south shore for a langoustine lunch at the Fjorubordid; with views of volcanoes, the ocean and endless hay fields.

After time to relax and refresh, delegates joined together for a farewell dinner at the elegant Hotel Borg Restaurant. Swapping photos and tales of the adventure, the group retired at leisure before a morning flight back to London.
